Based in Bolton, just a few minutes’ drive from Knightsbridge’s head office, the Food Hub was set up in 2020 by the Urban Outreach Charity to support people through the covid-19 pandemic.

Since then, their scope has grown and last year alone they provided 13,278 food parcels, and they also now provide poverty lessons to children aged 9-11.

Due to the charity’s amazing efforts, our Managing Director, Victoria Hughes, recently selected the food hub as our highlighted charity. It was Victoria’s excellent idea for members of the Knightsbridge team to collect food to donate. She also asked for volunteers to help coordinate our efforts.

Receptionist June Lyons was keen to help, admitting that: “foodbanks are close to my heart, having known someone who has been unfortunate enough to experience homelessness. I just knew it was important to do something to help.”

Thanks to the generosity of June and the rest of the Knightsbridge team, we were able to collect a trolley’s worth of donations in just over a week. It is a real testament to our team’s helpful and caring nature that we were able to achieve this despite the current cost of living crisis that is affecting us all. This is something that has really affected the country but in Bolton, where our head office is based, 106 people recently turned up to a soup kitchen.

Due to her helpful and caring nature and personal connection, June understood the importance of getting the job sorted as soon as possible. This resulted in June using her own initiative to connect with the food hub and then taking the donations to the shelter early one morning. She was assisted by Chloe McNulty, our administration team leader. The duo spent some time at the food hub site and got to see how the charity works.

June explained that the whole experience really brightened her day, saying: “I had a great job satisfaction, knowing I can help and do my job.”

Her experience speaks to the heart of what we do at Knightsbridge, which is essentially to help other people and make their lives easier.

June is just one of the helpful and caring members of our team. At Knightsbridge, our commitment to help is at the heart of what we do – whether that is assisting those in our community or business owners.
