What began with strong roots in the University of Southampton community has grown into a well-established garment printing and embroidery business — and now Wessex Custom Clothing has entered its next chapter under new ownership.

Founded in 2008 by Daniel Perkins, the business built its early presence supplying the student market before expanding into a broader commercial and institutional customer base, providing its services to clients including the BBC, Sainsbury’s and IKEA.

The company has built a reputation for reliability, service and consistently high-quality output. A key strength of the business is its in-house production model, with most orders being fulfilled within around ten working days from receipt of payment.

Now operating from larger premises, the business has dedicated office and production space to support customisation services. The site, however, is not essential to the continuity of the operation, giving the buyer additional flexibility as the business moves forward.

Its scope for further development, capable staff structure, and quality of the business was highlighted to draw interest in the opportunity – which was positive; progressing through 15 viewings and ultimately resulting in two offers being tabled for the client to consider.

Martin Baars, Regional Commercial Director, represented the opportunity as part of the Knightsbridge team throughout the process, which was led by Operations Manager Sara Manville, who commented:

“The business was an attractive proposition because it combined a strong reputation, experienced staff and a loyal customer base with clear bolt-on potential.

“That helped generate solid engagement from the market and gave our client meaningful options to consider.”

Wessex Clothing was ultimately acquired by Dorset-based Taylor Made Designs, founded by James Taylor in 1993. The acquisition represents a strategic bolt-on for the buyer, strengthening its existing offer while adding an established garment decoration capability and customer base.

The team wishes Daniel every success as he exits the trade and looks forward to seeing Wessex Clothing continue to develop under its new ownership.
