Building a business from scratch often creates a strong personal connection, particularly when it plays a central role within a local community. Spires Consultancy Limited, trading as Smarty Pants Schoolwear, has become a trusted supplier of school uniforms and embroidered workwear from its base in Essex.
Established in 2007, the business began operating from its founder’s home before expanding into dedicated premises in Brentwood. Owned and operated by Diana Church, Smarty Pants developed long-standing relationships with schools across the county and became the preferred uniform supplier to more than 40 local schools.
The decision to sell was taken to support Diana’s retirement plans, with a clear focus on securing the right future for the business and its customers. Interest remained consistent throughout the process, reflecting the company’s reputation, in-house embroidery capability and strong local presence.
The transaction was led by Operations Manager Sara Manville, with Regional Commercial Director Martin Baars representing the sale. A competitive process followed, progressing through multiple viewings and offers before a successful completion was achieved.
Reflecting on the experience, delivering a five-star review, Diana commented:
“It is a nerve wracking selling a business that you have built up from scratch but I really valued the service I received from Knightsbridge.
Sara guided me through the process and was a valued sounding board. I felt that she had my best interests at heart and I never felt pushed into accepting offers I wasn’t happy with for the sake of achieving a sale.
Thank you.”
Smarty Pants Schoolwear was acquired by Bak Dairy Ltd, owned by Mohammed Aamir and based in Redbridge, Greater London. Knightsbridge wishes Diana a happy retirement and every success to the new owner as the business continues to serve schools across Essex.
