More than 100 prospective buyers expressed interest in acquiring specialist education software provider Leafhopper, highlighting the strength of demand for niche EdTech businesses.

Leafhopper develops software designed specifically for special educational needs (SEN) schools and SEN units within mainstream education settings. Its flagship system, SOLAR, enables schools to manage and track academic records, assessments and progress data for pupils from early years through to post-school education.

The company, established in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire by founder Jane Savery, attracted 102 potential buyers, resulting in 41 viewings and nine offers during the sale process before a successful buyer was confirmed.

The strong figures were achieved through a wider team effort, with Regional Commercial Director Joe Bull representing the opportunity and the transaction led by Associate Director Sara Thomasson.

Reflecting on the process, Jane left a five-star review of her experience working with Knightsbridge:

“Great service from Knightsbridge as they sold our business for us. We worked with Sara who was fabulous. She worked diligently to find the right buyer for us, kept us informed throughout the whole process and was always there when we needed her.”

Since launching the software, the business has built a strong reputation within the education sector, with much of its growth driven by referrals and word-of-mouth recommendations from schools already using the system.

The cloud-based platform is already widely adopted across the sector, with more than 300 schools across the UK using the system, reflecting the growing demand for specialist digital tools tailored to SEN education environments.

The opportunity generated significant attention from the market, ultimately resulting in multiple offers before completion with private buyer Lizzie Shearing, founder of Learning DNA.

Learning DNA works with schools and education organisations to support improvement through leadership development and evidence-led practice, making the acquisition a natural strategic fit within the education sector.

Concluding, Jane commented:

“Thanks to Sara for her patience and support throughout the whole process.”

Knightsbridge wishes Jane every success as she moves into retirement and looks forward to seeing Leafhopper continue to develop under its new ownership.
